The special uncirculated 25 Euro coin shows an old-fashioned clock face in the niobium core and a chronometer in the outer silver ring. Niobium is a high tech metal. An oxidation treatment forms thin oxide layers on the niobium core. The thickness of the layer defines the color. The refraction of the light causes the layer to shine in beautiful colors.
